Rishikesh & Mumbai Eye Care Campaign

A promise to ourselves to serve the unreached population, and faith that it would be possible with one little step!
13th Indo French Exchange program, this year was a detour to Mumbai via Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Our students from Institute & Centre of Optometry, France and Lotus College of Optometry landed at Dehradun on February 24, 2019. Our program began with school screening at Maitri school located at Yamkeshwar block, next day continued with Pavki Devi College and then Khushi charitable trust. In our Rishikesh centre (Swami Shukdevanand charitable hospital) adults were screened and 120 cataracts were operated. Despite of commuting problems and rains the team managed to screen 387 adults and children, dispensed 29 spectacles and reffered 32 cataract surgeries.
Back in Mumbai we did a screening camp at Dixit Municipal school at Vile Parle, focused group camp for adults in the dhobhighat of Vile Parle and a camp for children with intellectual disability at VDIS School in Malad. Total 627 patients were screened and 50 spectacles were dispensed.
The team also had a gala time in the 10th Shree Naval P. Baliwalla Scientific Session where students not only participated in the conference but also enjoyed some thrilling performances from different colleges during Ekshika.
We take this opportunity to thank Essilor Vision foundation, Kangaroo Kids foundation, Health first , XOVA, Prof. Shivanand Mankekar and Mr. Hemang Jangla as without their support it wouldn’t have been possible to reach the unreached.
Amidst all the chaos Indo French exchange program took off successfully.
